What are the eligibility requirements for taking a TDA loan? FAQ

You may be eligible for a TDA loan under the following conditions: a) if you have participated in the TDA Program for at least one year; b) if you are an in-service member, or you are on a leave of absence, or you have TDA Deferral status; and c) if you are not in default on an existing TDA loan. You may learn whether you are currently eligible to take a loan by logging in to the secure section of our website.

You may do so by logging in to the secure section of our website. You may also write to TRS to obtain this information at any time; if you do so, please include your membership number in your correspondence.

Can I receive a letter stating that I am collecting my retirement allowance from TRS? FAQ

Yes. You can request an income-verification letter in the secure section of the TRS website in the Payments section. The letter can be printed or downloaded, and a copy will be posted to your Documents section. You can also elect to have the letter mailed to a third party.


How can I file for a TDA or Roth withdrawal or rollover? FAQ

To apply for any withdrawal or rollover, members should log in to the secure section of the TRS website. For most withdrawals, you can use the Menu to navigate to the TDA or Roth section to start your application. For partial withdrawals, (i.e., withdrawals where you are not closing your account), please note that Rollovers (paid to a successor account) and Direct Payments (paid to you) must now be requested in separate transactions.


How will my withdrawal be paid? FAQ

If you choose a Direct Payment of your TDA or Roth withdrawal, it will be paid by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) into the bank account on file with TRS. This may be the account where you receive your pay as an in-service member, or the account where you receive your retirement allowance as a retiree. You may provide or update your bank information in Payments in the secure section of the TRS website. Please note that establishing or changing an EFT account generally takes at least 21 days.

Your monthly disability retirement allowance is calculated based on tier-specific formulas. For more information, see the applicable brochure: Ordinary Disability Retirement or Accident Disability Retirement. You may also obtain these brochures through the Publications feature of our website, or by calling TRS at 1 (888) 8-NYC-TRS.

While TRS is unable to provide an estimate of your allowance at this time, you may contact your union in this regard.


How do I block phone/online access to my personalized TRS account information? FAQ

You may block access to your account information by calling TRS or by filing an Account Information Access Form (code DM11) with TRS. (Please be aware that, by placing this block, you will be unable to obtain your TRS account information by phone or through TRS' website.) You may restore access at any time by filing a new Account Information Access Form. TRS would process your request to block or restore access within seven business days of the receipt of your properly completed form.
